Statement

Vladislav Delay, Uusitalo, Luomo, Conoco, Sistol. Under a raft of different names, Finnish artist Sasu Ripatti has experimented with ambient, broken beat, glitch as well as grooves and house music with soulful vocals. In addition he has collaborated with and worked for a wide range of artists ranging from Scissor Sisters and Craig Armstrong to AGF, Black Dice, Massive Attack, Towa Tei and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Phthalo began its relationship with Ripatti in 1999 by releasing his self-titled album as “Sistol,” one of his earliest guises. Now, several festival-headlining and Massive Attack-remixing years later, Ripatti has remastered this early “Sistol” album for release on Halo Cyan, injecting the elastic dub-house mechanics of the original material with even more of the delicate, modern-day bounce he’s since acquired over the past decade. This remaster is to be followed by a remix album, and most excitingly Ripatti’s first album as Sistol in over a decade—“On the Bright Side.”
