Statement

Jason Potratz’s debut album, called “Transfer” (PH21), was a work of experimental acid techno released well ahead of its time. The release heralded much of the ensuing popularity of SH-101, MC-202, and TB-303-inspired electronics, ultimately exemplified by such works as Florian Hecker’s recent “Acid in the Style of David Tudor.” Potratz’s programming and sound design are flirtations with ways of grounding the groundless.

    Inspired and a little tipsy(sp?):

Anyway everyone here should investigate the record label Sub Rosa a little bit. Guy Hinant, I think that’s his name, curates and runs the label and what’s interesting is his approach. He combines postmodern philosophy with avant-garde (modern) tactics. He will talk about Deleuzian ideas but then put out cds with Morton Subotnick on them. A book, I was reading, talked about the messiness of post modernism vs. the “realisation” of things, the now and forever inspired thoughts we might be able to realize. How do we combine the two, how do we put it together? Sub Rosa seems to be working towards this??? Also, I have quote, that interested me but really might be directed possibly towards the Phthalo organization:

“Since it’s inception, Recycle or Die has proven far more than simply an ambient record label, but an idea-tank, a point of view, an intersection of the arts with strong affiliation to the feeling and intstincts of a whole generation”.
Maybe Phthalo can apply this idea towards it’s goals. Maybe not, but it is interesting. (Recyle or Die was an ambient label in the 90s that was a subsidiary label of Eye-Q records). So maybe keep thinking of Phthalo as a think tank rather than just a label and everyone else may fall to the wayside.
